Large-Scale Carbon Capture at Skogn: A Milestone for Green Industry

Carbon Centric will do an assessment of a large-scale carbon capture at the Norske Skog Skogn paper mill in Levanger municipality, one of Europe’s largest newsprint producers. The mill emits over 200,000 tonnes of biogenic and climate-neutral CO₂ annually, mainly from steam production using sustainable biomass combustion.


By capturing and upgrading biogenic CO₂ emissions, a we have a circular CO₂ product, which can be utilized as a green resource by different industries, or sent for permanent storage. The latter can help removing CO₂ from the atmosphere, which is essential to meet the commitments of the Paris Agreement.

Modular Solutions

Carbon Centric specializes in developing carbon capture projects with a complete value chain, assembling modular and standardized carbon capture facilities that they integrate, own, and operate themselves. The company assumes full responsibility for the entire project execution, including financing, obtaining all necessary permits, and securing agreements for the captured CO₂ for either utilization or storage.

Towards Net Zero

Carbon Centric is building a portfolio of carbon capture facilities and downstream CO₂ handling, primarily focused in the Nordic region. The company has a growing project portfolio that supports its ambition of achieving a total capture capacity of three million tonnes by 2030.


The captured CO₂ will initially be used for utilization, but there are also plans for storage in the future. Carbon capture from sustainable sources helps replace CO₂ from fossil sources and supports the creation of new, sustainable products.


“The world needs both carbon capture for utilization and storage to meet climate goals. By focusing on the use of CO₂ from sustainable sources, we can establish more capture capacity quickly, independent of storage options,” concludes Juul.
