Carbon Removal Certificates - CDR
Our goal is to capture and remove as much COâ‚‚ as possible from the atmosphere – as quickly as possible!
We see carbon capture from biogenic combustion processes as an important tool in the fight against climate change. With our build-own-operate model, we enable CCS projects that would otherwise not be realized, while also offering carbon removal certificates.
Carbon removal & certificates
To achieve the Paris Agreement's goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C, we must not only reduce emissions but also actively remove COâ‚‚ from the atmosphere. This is especially important for sectors where it is difficult to completely eliminate emissions and to reverse historical emissions. Carbon removal is, therefore, a necessary part of the solution to achieve global climate goals.

Carbon can be removed from the atmosphere through both natural and industrial methods, which differ in their carbon uptake capacity and storage duration. Planting trees is an example of a natural method, while industrial methods include carbon capture from ambient air (DAC, Direct Air Capture) or point emissions from biogenic combustion sources (BECCS, Bio Energy with CCS).

Activities that capture and permanently store biogenic COâ‚‚ are referred to as CDR (Carbon Dioxide Removal). At Carbon Centric, we use amine technology to capture COâ‚‚ from the flue gas of various biogenic emission sources. When biomass is burned, and the COâ‚‚ is captured and permanently stored in geological formations, the carbon is removed from the natural carbon cycle. This allows us to offer carbon removal certificates that businesses or organizations can use to reduce their carbon footprint.

Why CDR from Carbon Centric?
-
High-quality, high integrity certificates: We ensure reliable documentation, full transparency, traceability, and independent third-party verification of stored COâ‚‚.
-
Better financing conditions: Investors and banks increasingly prioritize sustainability as a key factor in their decision-making.
-
Enhanced reputation: With growing demands for transparency, it becomes evident which companies have solid goals and strategies for sustainability.
-
Business opportunities: As an early player in a rapidly growing market, you gain access to sought-after certificates and the opportunity to support the development of new projects.
What sets us apart?
Flexible and Scalable Business Model: We offer a build-own-operate business model with a technology-agnostic and partner-oriented approach, with a mission to help COâ‚‚ emitters realize CCUS projects. Since we are not tied to any specific technology or supplier, we always evaluate the most advantageous capture technology based on the emitter’s industry and input factors to ensure optimal COâ‚‚ utilization, sustainable energy use, and efficiency.

With our business model, we control the entire process—from early assessments and feasibility studies to the operation of the capture facility. The combination of our business model and standardized CCUS units allows us to establish capture facilities quickly while relieving emitters of large investments and resource commitments. Such investments often have a negative impact on core business operations, which is a key reason why many projects fail to materialize.
We have identified waste-to-energy and bioenergy plants in the Nordics as our beachhead market. This sector offers a significant opportunity for standardized CCUS units due to similarities between facilities and flue gas compositions.
Transparency and Control Throughout the Process:
When generating carbon credits, we ensure full transparency regarding input factors (such as energy and biowaste) since we own and operate the facility while maintaining a close collaboration with the combustion operator. By leading the project from start to finish and making decisions across the entire value chain, we can guarantee integrity in a way that other market participants may not be able to

Early Movers: We are among the early movers in this field and believe that developing this crucial technology must begin as soon as possible. Therefore, despite being a new and relatively small player, we actively participate in discussions on how CCUS technology should be implemented—both with industry peers and policymakers.

Flagship Prosjekt and Expertise:
To execute carbon capture projects from start to finish, we have invested in internal expertise. In addition to a commercial team, we have a team of engineers specializing in project development and management.
We are currently constructing our first carbon capture facility in Rakkestad, southeast Norway. This CCU project will be installed at Østfold Energi’s waste-to-energy plant, serving as a demonstrator for future projects. The facility will be owned and operated by Carbon Centric and is expected to be operational by 2025.

Although the facility is relatively small, with a COâ‚‚ capture capacity of 10,000 tons per year, it will be one of the world’s first full-scale carbon capture facilities at a waste-to-energy plant. This project will provide valuable insights and experience for future CCS projects.
